FALMOUTH, KY (FOX19) -
A former middle school volleyball coach has pleaded not guilty to new charges.
Cassie Elfers, 21, is now facing two additional charges of sexual abuse and a charge of distribution of obscene matter for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Elfers was the part-time volleyball coach at Sharp Middle School. She was charged in January with one count of sexual abuse.
Elfers was arraigned on the new charges on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty. She was also ordered to not have unsupervised contact with any minors. The new charges involve the same student.
Elfers' attorney, Eric Deters, has said that there wasn't any sexual intercourse, and that Elfers was not the volleyball coach at the time of the
alleged sexual contact. She was an assistant basketball coach for
the boy's team, which was coached by her ex-boyfriend.
