(RNN) – Only one team scored more points per game than the Iona Gaels in the 2012-2013 season, and only two players scored more than the Gaels' Lamont "MoMo" Jones.

Jones, a 6'0" senior from Harlem, NY, played the role of facilitator in his freshman and sophomore years at Arizona but thrived as the primary shooter for Iona. This season, he tallied 23.0 points, 3.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest.

Following a stretch when the Gaels lost six of seven games, he led them on a five-game winning streak that took them through the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.

His efforts got him the conference's player of the year award and Iona its second-straight appearance in the NCAA tourney.

He is not shy about hoisting a 3, averaging more than five attempts per game. But his specialty lies in taking defenders off the dribble and using his speed and strength to score close to the hoop.

Jones does not go out of his way to avoid contact either, and averages 7.5 free throws per game. He is near-automatic from the charity stripe, hitting at 88.7 percent.

MoMo and Co. face a tough task Friday in No. 2 seed Ohio State, but the offensive star is no stranger to big games. Look for Iona to try and set the pace early by scoring fast on the bigger Buckeyes.
