TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The superintendent of Tucson's largest school district has announced his resignation.

Dr. John Pedicone said in a letter to TUSD faculty and staff that he plans to resign on June 30, 2013. His current contract was scheduled to expire in June 2014.

In the letter, Pedicone said the timing was right.

"It makes sense to allow our newly elected board members to work with a superintendent who will be in place for the duration of their first board terms," Pedicone said in the letter.

Pedicone has been the superintendent of TUSD since Nov. 23, 2010.
