(RNN) – Doug McDermott's accomplishments speak for themselves: Two-time first team All-American, two-time conference player of the year, Wooden Award finalist, 2,000 points scored.
The 6'8" junior led Creighton to its second straight championship in the Missouri Valley Conference in the final run before the program joins the new Big East. The Bluejays own a 27-7 record and the No. 7 seed in the tournament's Midwest Region.
McDermott finished the season with averages of 23.1 points (second in the nation) on 56.1 percent shooting with 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
His already fantastic numbers from sophomore season improved with another year under his belt. His 3-pointers attempted and made increased, along with his accuracy from long distance.
The son of Creighton coach Greg McDermott also went from hitting 80 percent of his free throws to 86 percent.
He presses defenses by scoring in the low-post, off the dribble and with his jump shot. He also forces teams to rotate defenders on him by staying in constant motion without the ball as he looks to get open for a pass.
Beginning with Cincinnati, teams will have the unlikable options of guarding Doug McDermott with someone small he can wear down or someone big he can wear out.
