TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Scott Hairston, the Canyon Del Oro High School ('99) grad, went one-for-four with a run scored for the Chicago Cubs who fell short to the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 Thursday at Kino Stadium in the 2nd annual Major League Spring Training game to benefit the Christina Taylor-Green Memorial Fund.
It was Alex Castellanos' fourth spring homer, a three-run drive that sealed the Dodgers victory.
Hairston played for the Dorados in the late 1990s alongside future major leaguers Chris Duncan, Ian Kinzler and Brian Anderson. He also spent parts of four seasons in Tucson with the AAA Sidewinders (Diamondbacks) between years 2003-2006.
Hairston hit a career-high 20 home runs last season for the New York Mets and parlayed that into a two-year contract this past off-season with the Cubs.
Another familiar Cub and former Tucson Padre, Anthony Rizzo, went 2 for 4. He was traded after his 2011 Padres season to the Cubs and is expected to be the club's everyday first baseman this season.
