TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The Federal Aviation Administration announced today that 149 air traffic control towers, including the one at Ryan Airfield near Tucson, would be closed because of sequestration.
24 federal contract towers that had been previously proposed for closure were spared because it was determined that closing them would have a negative impact on the national interest, according to an FAA news release.
The closures are scheduled to begin in early April.
