MCSO: 4 people booked on human smuggling charges

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Four people have been booked into Fourth Avenue Jail on charges related to human smuggling, according to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

MCSO said nine people were taken into custody on Thursday after an investigation of a midsized SUV with a California license plate. The remaining five suspects were turned over to ICE for border violations.

MCSO said the vehicle was speeding north of the Valley about 6:30 p.m. when the vehicle was stopped.

MCSO said the suspects are from El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico and were headed to Oregon and Nevada.
