A 21-year-old Phoenix woman was sentenced to 18 years in jail Wednesday for sexual conduct with a minor and abuse involving her 2-year-old son.

Rickesha Burns will also serve lifetime probation, according to a court spokesman.

Burns had changed her plea to no contest.

On March 24, 2013, Burns called police and told them her son was bleeding around his bottom.

Officers said Burns initially told them that she and her son had been at a nearby park earlier in the day and that her child had been playing with a 12-year-old Hispanic boy. She said the boy "had done something to her son" during the 12 seconds she spent looking at a text message, according to police.

The child was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital with numerous bruises around his bottom, a hanger-type bruise on his hip and a bruise on his neck, a court document stated.

During a police interview, Burns said the boy's father was out of town at the time and that she was the sole caretaker that day. Burns blamed the boy at the park for inflicting her son's injuries, police said.

Police said the boy had to undergo surgery.

After the interview was over, detectives said they developed probable cause to book Burns into jail.

Police said they found no evidence that the child had been assaulted at the park.
