The closed Tower Theatres in Arizona Pavilions in Marana will be acquired by Harkins Theatres, as announced Thursday.
Harkins Theatres will remodel and upgrade the current theater in hopes to reopen as Harkins Arizona Pavilions 12, located on Arizona Pavilions Drive off of the I-10 at Cortaro Road.
"As a native Tucsonan, I am really excited to be expanding the Harkins experience to the residents of north Tucson and Marana," Harkins Theatres President Mike Bowers said. "The theatre will be upgraded and remodeled to include a number of our signature amenities and programs."
The company says the Harkins Arizona Pavilions 12 will include wall-to-wall screens, rocking love-seats, state-of-the-art all digital projection and sound, and an expansive gourmet concession stand menu.
"This year marks our 80th year entertaining our friends and neighbors in Arizona," Harkins Theatres Owner Dan Harkins said. "What better way to celebrate than to expand to a new Arizona location."
Harkins said he will employ more than 75 team members and managers at the new location.
Harkins plans to reopen in time for the May 2 release of Iron Man 3.
