The loud noise coming from Davis Monthan Air force Base wasn't an A-10. It was Gary Sinise and The Lt. Dan Band. For the first time the group came to Tucson to play for the airmen.
Sinise maybe best known for his role as Lt. Dan in the movie "Forrest Gump." But some may know him from his role on the CBS show "CSI: NY" as Detective Mac Taylor. Back in 2004 Sinise started the band with his friend Kimo Williams. They named Lt. Dan Band after his charter in "Forrest Gump." They have played hundred of shows in the U.S. and around the world for military personnel and their families. The group is a cover band, so they play a ton of popular music from rock and roll to pop.
Sinise said, "If I can go out and show them a good time by playing some music with this great band it's my honor to do it." The Actor plays the electric bass guitar in the group.
The airmen at DM were pretty exited to have the band perform. It gave them a few hours to have a little fun and enjoy the music. The concert was free, military personal, their families and other base members were invited. DM made it a point to invite the families of airmen that are deployed. About 10% of the base is deployed and that's almost 1,000 airmen.
"It's a great moral event, we don't often have live bands come here and play great music for us," said Kevin Blanchard the 355th Fighter Wing Commander.
