BOSTON, MA (WIS) -

Former University of South Carolina baseball star Jackie Bradley Jr. drew three walks, scored two runs, and was named ESPN's Player of the Game in his major league debut.

Bradley started Monday for the Boston Red Sox in left field on Opening Day in Yankee Stadium.

Bradley, who is batting 8th, took the plate in the second inning against Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia with a runner on and one out.

After drawing a walk, the former Gamecock advanced to second on an infield single, moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a single to put the Red Sox up by two runs. The Sox scored four in the inning.

In the fourth inning, Bradley drew another walk to load the bases.

The Red Sox would go on to defeat the Yankees by a score of 8-2.

Red Sox Manager John Farrell told MLB.com Bradley earned a spot on the Opening Day roster through his performance in spring training.

Bradley batted .419 in spring training.

He played on the University of South Carolina baseball teams that won the College World Series back-to-back. In his three seasons with the Gamecocks, Bradley batted .331 with 30 homers and 133 RBI.

Bradley is a native of Richmond, VA.
