PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Phoenix police said they believe impairment was a factor in the death of a 61-year-old motorcyclist early Tuesday morning in north Phoenix.
A Phoenix police spokesman said the motorcyclist suffered the fatal injuries after he struck a curb near the intersection of Cactus and Cave Creek roads about 2:30 a.m. and fell from the motorcycle, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.
He was not wearing a helmet, Martos said
The man was riding with a second motorcyclist, who was not hurt.
The intersection was partially closed for the police investigation and was expected to affect the morning rush-hour commute.
Alternate routes include Seventh Street instead of Cave Creek Road and Sweetwater Avenue instead of Cactus Road.
No other information was immediately available.
