As the Tucson Unified School District deals with budget issues and school closures tonight they want to focus on another hurdle.
The Board will discuss the next steps in the hiring process for a new superintendent. Board members and Superintendent Dr. John Pedicone will meet tonight to discuss starting the hiring process of a new superintendent.
Dr. Pedicone gave his resignation last month and some board members have spoken out saying they do not want Pedicone to leave.
Michael Hicks and Mark Stegeman sent out a letter to Pedicone asking he reconsider his resignation. They are asking Pedicone to not place the district in a tight spot of making a rushed search for a long term leader.
By the end of tonight the Board hopes they will have a game plan. Tucson News Now spoke with Board President Adelita Grijalva, who says they will be going over all their options in the hiring process.
Whether they want a search firm to take care of all the paperwork or have the district take care of that.
The Board also plans on discussing how they want to word the job posting that could go out as early as this week.
The meeting is tonight at 6 p.m. inside TUSD headquarters.
