Arizona legislators approved a bill to prohibit student organizations from using university funds for political purposes.
After the Arizona Students' Association's spent $122,000 in support of failed ballot measure Proposition 204, the legislature decided the money could be used elsewhere.
The House approved the bill, followed by the Senate's support on Tuesday. Gov. Jan Brewer will review it next.
Rep. John Kavanagh, the sponsor of the proposed bill, argued that using student fees for political reasons is wrong. But the bill's democratic opponents say students should correspond to issues like tuition increases.
