Cops step up patrols after east side murders

Cleveland Police step up patrols after east side murders Cleveland Police step up patrols after east side murders

Police are stepping up patrols in wake of two murders on Cleveland's east side.

19 Action News spoke with a woman walking home alone Wednesday night. She was in a hurry because she says she's afraid after the murders and a sexual assault on the east side. The victims were all women.

"I'm trying to get home because I'm walking and I don't feel safe out here and I want to get home," said the unidentified Cleveland woman. "Where they found that girl body at -- I gotta go past that house. I don't want to go past that house cause I'm scared of it, cause anything can happen to me while I'm out here."

Cleveland Police tell us they are stepping up patrols in the wake of the crimes.

Two cop cars were  seen in a hour cruising the East 93rd and Bessemer area. It's the same location where Christine Malone was found dead and not far from there 20-year old Jasmine Trotter's body was found.

Does the police presence make a community feel safer? The woman are too afraid to show her face says no.

"There are people getting killed over here and you aren't doing nothing about it. Police aren't doing nothing about it so what am I supposed to do," added the Cleveland woman.

In the meantime there is a growing makeshift memorial in the field where one of the victims was found and growing concern for who is responsible.

There is a community meeting planned for next week detailing how women can stay safe.
