Dogs attacked by swarm of aggressive bees in Sahuarita

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Two dogs are said to be in critical condition after being attacked by a swarm of about 50,000 bees in Sahuarita Thursday night.

The Rural Metro Fire Department is responded to a report of an active swarm of bees in the 400 block of West Camino Tunera.

"We've worked with the beekeeper to make sure that he can safely get up into the roof line, and at this point in time, he's found about 50,000 bees up into the roof of the home," Rural Metro Capt. Grant Cesarek said.

The department reports that upon arrival, no one was in the house where the swarm was. A beekeeper worked to remove the swarm.

Crews discovered that the homeowner left the home to get veterinary care for the dogs that had been attacked by the bees. It was originally reported that one of the dogs did not survive, but both are in critical condition.

The department says the engine crew foamed the bees to prevent them from further stinging neighbors and emergency workers.
