A University of Arizona philanthropy organization that offers food and toiletry item donations to university students and staff had their final distribution of the spring semester today.
UA Campus Food Pantry distributed more than 500 pounds of fresh breads and produce to more than 30 visitors at their three-hour event on campus Friday.
Campus Pantry distributes food and essential toiletry items to any UA student or staff member at risk of going hungry
They started their operation in January of 2013, with a distribution event on the first Friday of every month.
Each visitor is allocated "points," which are based off of available inventory. Individual point values for items are determined by how filling the item is and the nutritional content.
"We operate in a market style operation where visitors select the items they want from 'aisles,' and then the items are recorded to maintain inventory," UA Campus Food Pantry Chairman John Beeler said.
Any UA staff member or student with a valid CatCard is welcome at the UA Campus Pantry. The organization says privacy and anonymity is guaranteed.
The organization will start up again in September.
