Overnight SWAT situation ends with one suspect in custody

Cleveland Police were called to 11225 Mount Overlook just before 5 a.m. after someone heard a woman screaming for help.

Police say a female and her boyfriend were returning home from a bar when they were confronted by two males in their driveway.

The suspects asked the pair where the money was and one of the males produced a handgun and began to strike the boyfriend with it. The suspects then took both victims inside the home, where three juveniles ages 3 months, 11 and 16 were sleeping.

The suspects ordered the male victim to give them the money and began to search the home. As police arrived both victims were able to escape from the residence and one suspect fled from the residence.

Because the suspect was inside with juveniles in the home, Cleveland Police called the SWAT unit.

Once on scene the SWAT Unit made entry into the home and safely removed the juveniles and apprehended the remaining suspect. None of the juveniles are reporting injury at this time and the suspect who appeared to be high on drugs was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for evaluation.

During the incident an officer discharged his service weapon however, no one was hit.

The incident is currently under investigation.

The Cleveland Division of Police is asking that anyone with information about this incident to contact the Cleveland Division of Police at 216-623-5464.
