Gamecock players reprimanded for skipping event at president's house

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

About a dozen senior Gamecock football players are working their way back into head coach Steve Spurrier's good graces.  All they have to do is write a letter.

A little more than a week ago, a reception for the football team was held at University President Harris Pastides' house and Spurrier promised his players would be there.

But some senior players did not attend. So Spurrier banned those players from the weight room until they wrote a letter of apology to President Pastides.

"It was a little embarrassing for me," said Spurrier at the scrimmage Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

"Hopefully they'll all do it and we'll all be happy again," he said.  "But it was a bad thing that happened."
