Officials are warning of a telephone scam involving Medicare recipients making its way around Ripley County.
The Ripley County Sheriff's Office received a report of a 'foreign-sounding' male calling Medicare customers, claiming they are going to receive new, up-to-date cards. The caller then states he needs to verify the Medicare recipient's personal information, including current banking information.
The call is not from Medicare. Officials advise to not give anyone your personal information unless you are 100% sure of the source. Should someone call asking for this information and you can't confirm the
identity of the caller, hang up immediately.
The Ripley County Sheriff's Office asks that residents inform family, friends, and loved ones so they do not potentially become a victim.
