Tucson, AZ - Former Notre Dame wide receiver Davonte Neal has decided to transfer to the University of Arizona.
Neal, a two time Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year, said that the motivation behind his is family, specifically his newborn daughter Baylee. The 5'9", 171lb Neal has filed for a hardship waiver. Should he be cleared by the NCAA he will enroll in May be able to play right away.
Neal was a high priority for head coach Rich Rodriguez in 2012. Back then, Neal had narrowed his choices down to Notre Dame, Arizona, North Carolina, and Arkansas. The Scottsdale Chapparal alum made waves however when he did not show up to his college announcement and then later picked the Fighting Irish.
He played sparingly for Brian Kelly as both receiver and kick returner. He returned 21 kicks for a total of 46 yards and had just one reception for a loss of 5 yards. Should he be allowed to play immediately, he could make an immediate impact.
