Gamecock baseball team drops second game to Gators

GAINESVILLE, FL (WIS) - Eighth- ranked South Carolina lost game two of a three-game series against Florida 4-3 Friday night in Gainesville. The Gamecocks are 27-9 and 8-6 in the SEC with Florida 18-18 and 7-7 in league play.

The Gamecocks opened a 3-1 lead, but the Gators rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning highlighted by a two-out two-run single.

Florida reliever Aaron Rhodes earned the win and is 1-0 on the year.  He allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings with a walk. 

Adam Westmoreland suffered the loss and is 4-1 on the year.  He allowed three runs on four hits in five relief innings with a walk and two strikeouts. Gamecocks starter Jordan Montgomery went three innings and allowed one run, unearned, on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts for the Gamecocks on the mound

South Carolina had more hits than Florida for the second straight day in defeat with ten hits while the Gators finished with eight. 

The series concludes Saturday afternoon starting at 3 p.m.
