NEW RIVER, AZ (CBS5) -

A flight crew and patient on a medical helicopter were all OK Tuesday morning after they made an emergency landing in the town of New River.

The pilot put the Guardian Air chopper down on the ground near 7th Avenue and Joy Ranch Road after noticing some smoke in the cockpit about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

The patient, who was being taken to a Phoenix trauma center from northern Arizona, was eventually taken to the hospital by ambulance.
