PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Seven people were arrested Tuesday on charges related to human smuggling, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives from MCSO's Human Smuggling Unit determined that a SUV spotted in northern Maricopa County was carrying human smuggling clients who had paid up to $3,000 to be illegally transported to the U.S., sheriff's investigators said.

The vehicle was headed to California, MCSO said.

The seven suspects were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.

Two other suspects were turned over to agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
