According to Pima County Sheriff's Department, the missing Ventana trail hiker has been found and hoisted to safety.
The sheriff department's helicopter assisted in the search for the missing hiker. Customs and Borders Protection was also contacted to provide a helicopter for hoisting the hiker. Ultimately they hoisted him to safety; he was not injured.
Earlier this afternoon, a member of the department talked to the hiker on a cell phone and told him to stay where he was so they could use his phone GPS, but it died.
The department sent search and rescue volunteers and some deputies up the trail. The hiker was around four miles up the trail.
The sheriff sent a helicopter but it had to turn around due to heavy winds. Customs and Border Patrol sent one of their large helicopters to help.
When it found him, he was dropped a care package containing warm clothes and water and was asked to stay put until the teams could reach him and "hike him out."
