TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

In the world of boxing, a lot of fighters' talents can't keep up with their mouths.

At the Wolfpack Gym on 6th Street, a soft spoken 16-year old female is letting her gloves do the talking and those gloves are starting to make a lot of noise.

Tucson Magnet High School sophomore Monica Suazo initially took up boxing as a hobby, but that hobby has now turned into a bona fide career opportunity.

Suazo has risen to the 2nd spot in the United States among amateur females in the 106 pound weight class after winning the silver medal at the USA Boxing National Championships in Spokane, Washington.

Monica is definitely a name to watch. She will travel this summer to the Adidas National Boxing Tournament in June before competing in the Gold Gloves National Championships in July.

She's so quick in the ring that her trainer Ray Mitchell, Sr. has nicknamed her "Mantequilla" which is Spanish for butter because he says Monica is "smooth like butter".

The teen will compete at a sanctioned event next Saturday at the 6th Street Gym provided she can find an opponent. Anyone interested in going toe-to-toe with Monica should call the gym at (520) 406-7561.
