TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A woman was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday morning after a single-car accident into the median on Interstate 10 near Sunset Road.
Northwest Fire District crews were dispatched to the scene around 2 a.m., Capt. Adam Goldberg said.
The crews found the four-door sedan tangled in cables that prevent vehicles from traveling into oncoming lanes, Goldberg said.
Firefighters and paramedics could not open any door because the cables are not able to be moved without heavy machinery, he said.
A paramedic assessed and treated the victim through a window of the car while remaining units used the jaws of life to remove the roof of the car and get the patient out.
The victim was transported to the trauma center of a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
Her condition is non-life threatening, and she was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety went to the scene to conduct an investigation to find the cause of the accident.
