Tucson rated top notch for golf courses

Posted: Updated:

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana and the Starr Pass Golf Club in Tucson were rated as the top courses in the Tucson area by golfers who book their tee times on GolfNow, the world's largest online tee time service operated by Golf Channel.

Golfers who reserve a tee time using GolfNow have an opportunity to review a course and provide feedback based on their experience. Golfers can rate a course with one to five stars, write a review and read reviews from other golfers. There are more than two million registered GolfNow users.

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Dove Mountain integrates strategy, variety and beauty into 27 holes that weave through the saguaro-covered foothills of the Tortolita Mountains in the lush Sonoran desert. Dove Mountain annually hosts the World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play Championship on the PGA TOUR.

"This course is easily the nicest desert course I've played in southern Arizona," Mark Jackson wrote in his review of Dove Mountain. "The fairways and greens are immaculate, the layout is challenging yet fair; overall a great golf experience. Views of mountains in the southwest are an added perk. Expensive for this region, but you get what you pay for."

Starr Pass winds through the mountains and arroyos for a true Sonoran golf experience, complete with challenging golf and abundant desert wildlife. The three nines offer multiple opportunities to mix and match landscape, elevation changes and challenge.

"In my opinion, this is the best course in Tucson: great 27 holes with lots of variety, views, greens, etc. A fantastic pace of play every time I play. Quality staff," Jay Glazer wrote in his review.

GolfNow golfers also ranked Ventana Canyon (Tucson), Tucson National (Tucson), Tubac Golf Resort (Tubac), The Preserve at SaddleBrooke (Tucson), Quail Creek Country Club (Green Valley), Haven Golf Course (Green Valley), del Lago (Vail) and Quarry Pines Golf Club (Tucson) among top-10 courses in the Tucson area. Golfers can find more information on these and other Tucson area courses at http://www.golfnow.com/tucson.

The top-10 rankings by market are compiled using GolfNow's star rating system and are calculated based on the number of recommendations a course receives from reviewing golfers.

The ratings and reviews feature not only highlights a course's overall star rating, but also provides the latest information on course conditions and difficulty, staff friendliness, 18-hole pace of play and value as rated by other golfers. Since the GolfNow ratings and reviews service was launched in October, more than 33,000 golfers have submitted a course review after playing a round of golf.
