Kino Sports Complex soccer fields are getting upgraded

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Before sunset today, a multimillion dollar upgrade for Tucson sports gets underway.  The upgrade is a new stadium for FC Tucson.

Tucson News Now is giving a sneak peek.

Shovels will be hitting the dirt before dinner time today.  It's out with the old and in with the new.  A mock up of what the new stadium will look like is available at http://youtu.be/dBtSFVWTBmI.

The new grandstand will hold almost 2,000 screaming soccer fans, as well as an overhang for shade.  The stadium is only one part of a $2.8 million investment from the county, also included are upgrades to other soccer fields at the Kino Sports Complex.

FC Tucson says it is looking forward to bringing more youth, amateur and professional soccer to Kino Sports Complex.  Of course FC Tucson is the minor league soccer team that has called Tucson home since 2010.

The groundbreaking for the stadium is scheduled to take place at 4:45 p.m. today.  Construction should be completed by October, ready in time for the 2014 soccer season.
