Tucson, AZ — The thriving soccer community in Tucson will finally have a proper home to celebrate the world's game. FC Tucson, in conjunction with Pima County, broke ground this evening on the new Kino Sports Complex North Stadium with fans, players and coaches in attendance to celebrate the start of the building process.
Fans were invited to have their photos taken with a ceremonial shovel and hard hat.
"The tremendous quality of this project, as well as the pace at which Pima County has moved from stadium concept to shovels in the ground, is a credit to County leadership and staff members," said FC Tucson managing member Greg Foster. "FC Tucson is proud to have been part of this effort and looks forward to bringing excellent youth, amateur and professional soccer events to Kino Sports Complex"
The Kino Sports Complex North Stadium is expected to seat around 1,800 people and is scheduled to finish by November 2013. The stadium is just part of Pima County's multi-million dollar investment to make improvements to Kino Sports Complex North.
In addition to the new stadium, improvements will include the addition of a sixth soccer field at Kino Sports Complex North. There will also be a scoreboard made for the new stadium as well as a new main entrance for Kino Sports Complex North, new concessions and new restroom facilities.
