D-M impact: Retirees contribute $1.6B to economy

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A new report from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base says southern Arizona gets a big boost from military members, even after they retire.

The economic impact analysis from the last fiscal year shows retirees from the base and other parts of the military contribute $1.6 billion to the local economy.

As for the base itself, more than 10,000 people were employed at D-M in Fiscal Year 2012, including more than 7,500 military service members.

The combined payroll for all employees was more than $643 million.
