Bill banning destruction of returned guns awaits Brewer decision

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A bill which would make it illegal to destroy guns turned in during gun buy-back events is now on Gov. Jan Brewer's desk.

HB 2455 will ban gun buy backs like the one held here in Tucson last January sponsored by Council member Steve Kozachik.

Kozachik gave a Safeway gift card to anyone who turned in a weapon they didn't want anymore.

206 weapons were turned in and then destroyed.

Under the bill, the guns would have to be resold.

Gov. Brewer has not said what she will do, but has until next Wednesday to decide.
