Deerfield girls moving on to semifinals
Just three more wins, coming into Friday night that's all the Deerfield-Windsor girl's soccer team needed to claim the school's first soccer state championship. The Lady Knights hosted Mt.de Sales in the GISA AAA quarterfinals.
Casey Kincheloe stole to show and buried two goals in a 3-1 win over Mt. de Sales. Those two goals gives Kincheloe the school record for career goals scored with 114. Now the Lady Knights are one step closer to its first ever state title.
"The school has never won a state championship. Obviously it's our ultimate goal as a group. This is a great squad of girls from number one all the way down to twenty-one. Every single one of them works for each other. They'll take themselves as far as they want to go and if we get to the final then obviously we have a great chance," said head coach Aly Joslin.
The Lady Knights will host Westminster in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Knights come up short against Mt. de Sales
Meanwhile the Knights saw its state soccer run come to an end after a 3-0 loss to Mt. de Sales. Head coach Aly Joslin says the season was still a success with the boy's reaching their goals of making it to the second round of the state playoffs.
Sherwood teams knocked out in quarterfinals
In the AA, quarterfinals both Sherwood Christian soccer teams seemed to just run out of gas. The one seeded Sherwood girl's failed to keep possession against a very skilled Frederica squad. The Lady Eagles dropped a 3-0 contest at the Darton Soccer Complex in Albany. Sherwood loses just two seniors from this year's team.
"I'm real proud of these girls. It's a tough way to end because we were expecting to do a lot more than this. We were looking on to the finals as oppose to thinking our season was going to end. So anytime it ends early it's difficult but I'm very proud of the girls and how hard they worked this season, " said head coach Jason Schultz.
The Sherwood boys were sent home with a 5-1 loss on their trip to Frederica. The Eagles' season comes to an end in the quarterfinal round as well.
