The Hamilton Police Department, as well as law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, collected unneeded and expired medications on Saturday.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was created in an effort to keep these prescription drugs out of unintended hands and bodies.
Hamilton Police say that drugs that are no longer needed for their intended medical conditions, or have expired, pose a significant risk to our children and families. Improper disposal of medications is also a threat to our environment.
By disposing of mediations in a safe and secure manner, the public can help protect our families and the environment.
Those in the Hamilton area came by the Hamilton Police Department at 331 South Front Street to drop off unneeded and expired medications.
Officers were on hand to take them and properly dispose of these medications.
Saturday marked the sixth nationwide Drug Take-Back Day. During the previous five medication disposal days, more than two million pounds of medications were removed from circulation for proper disposal.
