TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) – GE has voluntarily recalled approximately 1.3 million dishwashers because they pose a fire hazard.

According to a news release from the Arizona Department of Fire, Building, and Life Safety, the company received fifteen reports of electrical failure in the heating element of the dishwashers.

GE Appliances of Louisville, KY called the voluntary recall in line with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission of GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile, and Hotpoint dishwasher brands.

By August 2012, seven fires occurred as a result of the electrical failures and three of those had property damage because of them.

The dishwashers were sold between March 2006 and August 2009 for $350 to $850 at appliance dealers, distributors and other stores.

GE says that if you own one of the recalled dishwashers you should immediately stop using it and disconnect the electric supply by shutting down the fuse or electric circuit controlling it.

They say you should warn all users of the dishwasher of the possibility of fire and contact GE for a free in-home repair or rebates toward the purchase of a replacement.
