A 1-year-old boy was fighting for his life after he was found in the swimming pool of a Mesa home Tuesday morning.
The boy's aunt was babysitting him when she fell asleep for about a half-hour, said Larissa Dvorak of the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. When the aunt awoke, she found the boy in the pool, Dvorak said.
Firefighters said they believe the child went to the backyard through a dog door in the home.
The child had no pulse when firefighters arrived, but they were able to resuscitate him and he was taken to Cardon Children's Hospital in extremely critical condition, Dvorak said.
The mother was at work and the father had not been notified, Dvorak said.
No other information was immediately available.
