Flowing Wells senior Lyndsay Leikem and Rincon senior Asha Esprit have been named the Tucson Downtown Sertoma Club's Southern Arizona Prep Basketball Players of the Year.
Leikem has signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball career at the University of Indiana.
She averaged 14 points and eight rebounds last season while leading the Lady Caballeros to the Division II State Championship game where they lost to Scottsdale Saguaro 49-38.
She played her final two seasons at Flowing Wells after helping lead Phoenix St. Mary's to back-to-back state titles appearances in 2010 and 2011, winning the championship in her sophomore season.
Esprit scored 25 a contest for the Rangers and hopes to continue his playing career as a walk-on at UA. He has only been playing the game of basketball since he was 13 years old.
The four other local players honored included Tucson High freshman Alexis Cortez, Mountain View senior Melody McLaughlin, Buena senior Rashawn Avery and Catalina Foothills junior Chaz Mack.
