Homebound adults need meals volunteers

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

If nothing is done to stop sequestration cuts, seniors could go from getting free meals to being put on a waiting list.

Pima Meals on Wheels says it is expecting to lose $588,000 in federal funding on July 1. Officials say the group has not yet figured out how the loss will affect service.

Mobile Meals of Tucson does not receive federal funding and will not be impacted directly. However, managers say they will likely receive requests from those who won't get meals when federal funding goes away.

Mobile Meals also says this time of year becomes harder to operate as snowbirds leave Arizona and their volunteer posts.

The non-profit is looking for volunteers to prepare and deliver food, particularly on the south- and southwest-side of Tucson.
