PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police say they've arrested Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington on assault charges in a domestic violence case with his daughter's mother.

Washington was taken into custody Friday morning on West Washington Street in Phoenix on two felony charges of aggravated assault.

Officers were called to a domestic violence assault Wednesday night in the area of 4800 E. Warner Rd. where a woman alleged she was assaulted by Washington, the father of her youngest child.

According to the police report, Washington came to the Ciera MacDonald's house to see their daughter Wednesday, took their daughter outside and disappeared. When Washington returned he said they had gone to Dairy Queen. Police said the pair argued as they walked back to MacDonald's apartment and she asked Washington to give her the baby. Washington allegedly pushed her away from the child.

Then, according to the police report, Washington allegedly grabbed MacDonald by her throat, pushing her over a railing while choking her. MacDonald was able to get loose and ran into her bedroom with the child.

The police report went on to say that Washington followed MacDonald, grabbed her cell phone and left the apartment. She followed after him and threw a plant at his vehicle. MacDonald ran around the vehicle toward the driver's side door when Washington allegedly shoved her from behind, causing her to hit the ground and break her collarbone, the police report said.

Phoenix police said the victim also had scrapes, bruising and cuts on her arm, hip and leg. Police said her injuries are consistent with the events she said happened.

Washington was no longer at the scene when officers arrived, according to Phoenix police.

Washington made his first court appearance in the case on Friday morning. His lawyer asked that he be released to travel to Texas for his daughter's birthday party this weekend. The judge granted the request and Washington was released on a $4,200 bond.

He's expected to be back in court on May 9.
