TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Gov. Jan Brewer ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff today in memory of an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer who was killed in an accident on Interstate 8 east of Yuma on Monday.

Tim Huffman, 47, was in a parked patrol car at an accident scene when a tractor-trailer crashed into another patrol car that then struck Huffman's.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves says Huffman and two other officers were responding to an accident around 5 p.m. when the incident occurred east of Yuma.

Huffman and two other officers were parked, and only Huffman was sitting in his vehicle. The tractor-trailer rear-ended one of the empty DPS vehicles, which crashed into Huffman's car and killed him upon impact, according to Graves. The vehicle then crashed into the third patrol car.

Huffman is a 14-year veteran of the Yuma District of DPS.

No other injuries have been reported and charges have not been filed against the driver of the truck.
