Lady Wildcats head to golf regionals

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf will continue the postseason portion of the spring schedule with the NCAA West Regional Championships, hosted by Stanford. Held at Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., competition will take place Thurs.-Sat., May 9-11. One round will be played each day of competition. Stanford Golf Course is a par 71 over 6,130 yards.

Sophomores Patricia Garcia, Manon Gidali, Kendall Prince and Andrea Vilarasau and freshman Janie Jackson will play for the Arizona team this weekend. Individually, Gidali is ranked No. 25 and Prince is ranked No. 50 by Golfweek (4/28/13).

No. 1 USC, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Purdue, No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Baylor, No. 8 Texas A&M No. 9 Pepperdine, No. 10 LSU, No. 11 Denver, No. 12 South Carolina, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 14 Oregon, No. 15 UNLV, No. 16 California, No. 17 Florida State, No. 18 Miami, No. 19 San Jose State, No. 20 Harvard, No. 21 Kent State, No. 22 Northern Arizona, No. 23 North Dakota State and No. 24 Long Island will play in Palo Alto, Calif. this weekend. This weekend's regional championship marks Arizona's 21st season playing at the regional level. Of those 21 qualifications, 17 have led to a trip to the NCAA Championships. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional site. While Stanford hosts the West, Auburns hosts the East and Oklahoma hosts the Central.

Four Wildcats picked up league honors to go with a fourth-place finish and a Territorial Cup point at the conference tournament. Manon Gidali was named All-Pac-12 Second-Team, her second career accolade from the league after earning first-team honors as a freshman. Freshman Janie Jackson and sophomores Kendall Prince and Andrea Vilarasau were named Pac-12 Honorable Mention, the first league honor for the trio.
