Two Mexican nationals are in custody after customs officers say they tried to sneak $205,000 through a border checkpoint.
Officers made the arrest Monday after pulling over a car for a secondary inspection at the Lukeville, AZ, port of entry, according to a news release. They say the vehicle's occupants Laura Reyna, 33, and Ruperto Garcia, 33, told officers they had nothing to declare.
However, officers found 22 bundles of U.S. currency in the vehicle's panels.
Both individuals were referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. The cash and vehicle were seized.
