Campgrounds reopen on the Coconino National Forest
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -
Coconino National Forest officials said Thursday many developed campgrounds that have been closed for the winter have reopened.
They provided the following list:
Along the Highway 89 corridor the following campgrounds are open:
Little Elden Springs Horse
Lockett Meadow (opens May 17)
Along the Lake Mary Road (Forest Highway 3):
Dairy Springs Group
Along Lake Mary Road are three day-use sites, which are open as posted, usually from dawn to dusk. A day-use fee of $6 per vehicle applies any time use occurs. All day-use sites have picnic tables, barbecue grills, restrooms and boat launching capabilities. Overnight use is not allowed at any day-use sites:
Lower Lake Mary
The Narrows (at Lake Mary)
Upper Lake Mary
Due to the safety concerns of speeding drivers and to reduce user conflicts at Canyon Vista Campground, day-use parking for the Canyon Vista Trailhead Parking area (for access to the Arizona Trail, Sandy's Canyon Trail, and "The Pit" climbing area) has been relocated to the front of Canyon Vista Campground. Day-users are encouraged to park at the front of the campground and walk through the campground to get to their destinations.
Kinnickinick Lake Campground has been converted to a day-use site. It has picnic tables, restrooms and boat launching capabilities. There is no fee to use Kinnickinick Lake day-use site.
Upper Lake Mary day-use site has been configured to allow for a safer flow of traffic along Lake Mary Road. Visitors will be able to utilize the dedicated turn lanes to exit from Lake Mary Road into the day-use site.
Along the Highway 89A corridor of Oak Creek Canyon:
Pine Flat East (partially open during dry season) and West campgrounds
Along state Route 179:
Chavez Crossing Group
Along Forest Road 618:
Along Highway 260:
Clear Creek Group
