TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

This morning kicks off the Mt. Lemmon Hill Climb, where 250 riders are expected to push their way to the top of the mountain.

These riders will climb the entire way up to Summerhaven, 28 miles up, 28 miles down.  It is a slow ride up gaining 6,000 to 7,000 feet in elevation.  This race ranks as number 33 on the hundred toughest road climbs in the U.S.

Many riders say that is why they do it, for the challenge and the reward, a fantastic ride down.

It is all for a good cause. Registration fees go to the Greater Arizona Bicycling Association and help pay for cycling events and groups in Tucson.

Drivers should anticipate no closures of roads, as the cyclists have staggered start times; there is no mass rush of people at once.
