Tucson, AZ - Wildcat senior-to-be Sam Pickens started diving at the age of 11 in a city known more for their Steelers than their splashing. Having grown tired of swimming and gymnastics, the Pittsburgh native decided to give diving a try. Now, years later, Pickens is an NCAA women's diving champion (the first Wildcat female to accomplish such a feat). But her eyes are set are much loftier goals.
In her first international meet, Pickens represented the United States Well, finishing fourth at the FINA Grand Prix Canada Cup in Gatineau, Quebec. Now she's in training for the World Championships Trials, set for May 15-20 in Tallahassee, Florida. There, she will try for a spot on the U.S. squad that will ultimately compete at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona in July. From there, the sky's the limit...and that includes Rio in 2016.
