I-10 Traffic Switch Between Tucson and Benson Rescheduled

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Drivers who use the freeway between Tucson and Benson have another traffic headache to deal with this week.

More lane restrictions are planned this week while the Arizona Department of Transportation gets ready to switch eastbound traffic onto new lanes overnight Thursday, May 16.

According to ADOT, the following lane restrictions are scheduled:

Eastbound I-10 narrowed to one lane between Cienega Creek Bridge and Marsh Station Road from 6 a.m. Thursday, May 16 to 6 a.m. to Friday, May 17  for barrier placement and striping. Traffic will be on the new eastbound travel lanes by Friday morning.

Westbound I-10 narrowed to one lane between the new Marsh Station traffic interchange and Cienega Creek from 6:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16 to construct a median cross over.

ADOT says delays are expected, so drivers should plan extra travel time near the work zone. ADOT is also advising drivers to go through the work zone carefully.

ADOT's website shows that another traffic switch for westbound I-10 is scheduled for late May. It's designed to allow work crews to build the new alignment of westbound I-10 on the north side of the freeway. ADOT says it's all part of a $17.2 million project to separate the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-10 in a two-mile segment between Tucson and Benson.
