GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

Wednesday was a shocking and sad day for many people in the Higley Unified School District.

Athletic Director Art Wagner, 42, was found dead about 8:45 a.m. near the Higley High School campus from an apparent gunshot wound.

The shooting is believed to be a suicide but Gilbert police said officers were still investigating

"The district is grieving this tremendous loss," stated a news release from the Higley Unified School District. "Mr. Wagner was a dedicated educator who touched many lives. We honor his legacy and commitment to education."

A district spokeswoman said the district was providing counseling and other support to anyone who needs it.

    The Pima County Board of Supervisors reversed a decision made two weeks ago and has decided to accept a federal Stonegarden federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security for $1.4 million. The money will be used by the Pima County Sheriff's Department as part of its border strategy with federal agencies.
