TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Clerks of courts and U.S. Post Offices are accepting expedited passport applications from U.S. citizens who plan to travel abroad this summer.
The U.S. Department of State offers convenient options for travelers who want travel documents sooner than the standard four to six week processing time, according to a news release.
First time passports, passport renewals, additional visa pages and data corrections qualify for expedited service, according to the U.S. Department of State. An applicant can expect a $60 expedite fee and a two to three week wait time for delivery.
People who want to contact passport agencies in a hurry can apply directly to one of the department's 26 passport agencies and centers across the country, with proof of travel occurring within 14 days possibly required.
Passport expeditor/courier services are private, third-party companies, which are allowed to submit expedited passport applications on behalf of customers. They also charge additional service fees.
Information regarding passport and online applications, fees and processing times can be found on the department's official website at http://travel.state.gov or call the National Passport Information Center, toll-free, at (877) 487-2778.
