House committee requests interviews with IRS employees

WASHINGTON, DC (FOX19) -

A House of Representatives committee is seeking interviews from at least five IRS employees regarding the alleged improper scrutiny of conservative and Tea Party groups applying for tax-exempt status.

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform requested transcribed interviews with five members of the IRS staff, beginning on May 20.

In the letter, Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-California) and Subcommittee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) say the committee hopes to further understand the IRS's targeting of conservative and Tea Party groups for additional and unusual scrutiny.

The names and titles of the IRS employees requested are Holly Paz, a director; John Shafer, a manager; Gary Muthert, a screener; Liz Hofacre, a case coordinator; and Joseph Herr, a manager.

FOX19 has confirmed that at least two of those employees came from the Cincinnati office.

The letter also reads that the committee anticipates needing additional interviews with other IRS employees during its investigation.

The letter was sent on Wednesday addressed to acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller,  the same day Miller resigned from his position amid allegations against the IRS.
