MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A 20-year-old man died after he was thrown more than 100 feet when his speeding motorcycle collided with a car at a Mesa intersection Thursday night.

A Mesa police spokesman said the biker was speeding on Rio Salado Parkways and crashed into the side of the car at its intersection with Country Club Drive around 9:30 p.m.

Witnesses told police the car had the green light, the spokesman said.

A woman and infant in the car were taken to a nearby hospital, but the extent of their injuries and their conditions were not immediately available, the spokesman said.

It was not known if impairment was a factor or whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, the spokesman said.

No other information was immediately available.
